i had two netbooks ubdated back in octomber to ubuntu 11.10
the first update was 100% succesful so on the second netbook i was so confident i... fell asleep :-P
when i woke up, i saw some error messages, that my system might be damaged... so with one eye half-open i pressed a few buttons next/ok etc and finaly i crossed my fingers and rebooted the system
it re-started ok, i logged in and saw nothing strange :-)
the only thing left to remind me that night, is something on the update manager, a package called "Enlightenment DR17 file chunk reading/writing library" that is somehow "stacked" in there, and cannot be selected or updated... just stays there :-S
