Ubuntu 12.10 - Quantal Quetzal

upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10...

the last upgade to ubuntu 12.04 did not work very well on my secondary netbook, so i did not use it on my primary netbook and kept the 11.10 version

i was expecting this upgrade to see if the secondary netbook could "recover" to a "healthier" condition before i tried a clean install :-S

i think the previous upgrades were quicker than this, since i am waiting about 6 hours already and haven't finished yet

wrong page width @ firefox from localhost (ubuntu)

i noticed something strange today, firefox displays a wrong (bigger) page width than it should be, when i fetch the page through the localhost (apache @ ubuntu) although i can see the same page width correct when i open it in firefox as a normal local file.

using chromium, i see the page as expected from localhost :-S

i'm not sure what is the nature of the problem, i did a quick search and find this (a "browser id" problem @ ubuntu), but i don't have the time for further "investigation", so i'll just pray to see the problem auto-fixed someday

android development

i also tried it in the past, but today i finished the installation of the Android SDK and i started to follow the instructions of some tutorials.

Because...
Depending on your environment, the Android emulator might take several minutes to boot fully, so please be patient
... i finally managed to setup the Google USB Driver and test the samle apps at my phone.

At the moment, an interesting class i found is WebView but it took me quite a while to figure what i should do when i read here:
Now open the HelloWebView.java file. At the top of the class, declare a WebView object:
WebView mWebView;
i found the solution here :-)

in HelloWebView.java, you need to add a few imports that aren't mentioned in the docs:

import android.view.KeyEvent;

import android.webkit.WebView;
import android.webkit.WebViewClient;

(+2-1) for the new Google Analytics UI

(+2) two features i realy like @ the new GA UI are:
  • the real time live stats
  • switching accounts beeing at the same report
(-1) one thing that realy drives me crazy is... having to scroll horizontaly in my netbook, even if i hide the left sidebar. i think something has to (must) be done about this :-( it's the main reason i still switch back to the old Google Analytics version, to see my reports without losing my temper

don't know if you also have similar problems, i use the UI in the Greek language

update 03 March, 2012 :  at last i've noticed yesterday that the horizontal width was "fixed" and now when i hide the sidebar i don't have to scroll horizontaly

Enlightenment DR17 file chunk reading/writing library

i had two netbooks ubdated back in octomber to ubuntu 11.10

the first update was 100% succesful so on the second netbook i was so confident i... fell asleep :-P

when i woke up, i saw some error messages, that my system might be damaged... so with one eye half-open i pressed a few buttons next/ok etc and finaly i crossed my fingers and rebooted the system

it re-started ok, i logged in and saw nothing strange :-)

the only thing left to remind me that night, is something on the update manager, a package called "Enlightenment DR17 file chunk reading/writing library" that is somehow "stacked" in there, and cannot be selected or updated... just stays there :-S
